Welcome to Week 3 of our Christian Questions Blog Series. In Week One, we looked at who God is and what he does, discovering the infinite strength of our Creator and Father. Week Two, we turned to man. Where did we come from, how we were created, and ultimately what led to our separation from God. This week, we are taking a look at the oldest known enemy of God. Satan (Lucifer / the Devil / Wicked / god of this world). By understanding where Satan began, we can better understand why his desire is to destroy the children of God.
By definition, an Enemy is – a person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent. I’d say that’s right up the Devil’s ally. He hates God, all the things of God, and us (the children of God – Galatians 3:26) The #7 Definition of Enemy is, the Enemy, the Devil; Satan. REMEMBER THIS: THE ENEMY OF OUR FATHER IS AN ENEMY TO US!

Christian Questions Week Two
WHO IS SATAN?
Satan is an evil spirit who is the enemy of God and all Christians. The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. (Matthew 13:39) Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot being of the number of the twelve. (Luke 22:3) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8)
WAS SATAN EVER GOOD?
Yes, Satan was once of God’s greatest angels. As an angel, his name was Lucifer. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. (Isaiah 14:12-15)
WHY IS LUCIFER NOT ONE OF GOD’S ANGELS NOW?
Lucifer became jealous of God and wanted to be as great at He, so God cast him out of heaven. In the above question, we gave the Scriptures for Satan’s (Lucifer’s) jealousy and how he shall be brought down. (Isaiah 14:12-15) And there was a war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:7-9) His first recorded deception is in Genesis Chapter 3.
WHAT IS LUCIFER CALLED NOW?
Lucifer is now called Satan and/or the Devil. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (Luke 10:18) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (I John 3:8) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (I John 4:4)
WHO IS STRONGER, GOD OR SATAN?
God is stronger! He is the creator of his angels, and the caster out of Lucifer from heaven when he tried to rise to power.
DOES SATAN WANT GOD’S WILL TO BE DONE?
No, Satan has always wanted people to do the opposite of what God wants them to do. And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. (I Chronicles 21:1) See Numbers 1:49. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:11-12, 16)
WHAT WAS THE SIN OF OUR FIRST PARENTS? WHO TEMPTED THEM TO SIN?
Adam and Eve disobeyed God, by eating of the fruit that God has told them specifically they were not to eat. And the LORD God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16-17) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she too of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Genesis 3:6)
Satan came to Eve in the form of a serpent, with his temptations. The first thing Satan tempted her with, and the first thing he will tempt us with is, God’s words… Did God really say that???
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Genesis 3:1-6)
WHAT HAPPENED TO ADAM AND EVE WHEN THEY SINNED?
They died – Spiritually! They went from being perfect, holy and happy, to sinful and miserable people. They were driven from the home that was created for them, and God implemented punishments to each person, individually.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. (Genesis 3:6-24)
WHAT EFFECT DID ADAM’S SIN HAVE ON ALL MANKIND?
Because of Adam’s sin, all mankind lost fellowship with God, received a sinful nature, and began to do evil. Everyone born after Adam, inherits a sinful or corrupt nature. This sinful and corrupt nature is known as the Original Sin. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon ALL men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12) Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. (Psalm 51:5)
WHAT DOES EVERY SIN DESERVE?
Every sin, deserves the wrath and curse of God. No sin is above another, God does not measure sin as we measure it. There are no major and minor sins. All sin, is the work of our original nature and Satan’s temptations. They are all equally deserving of God’s punishment.
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17) If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgements; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. (Psalm 89:30-32) For as many as are the works of the law are under the curse: For it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (Ephesians 3:10)
