I Am Thankful For Grace

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  I hope that today, you will not only be stuffed with some delicious food, but that you get to soak up some wonderful fellowship with your family.  There are so many things that we can and should be thankful for in our lives, and family is definietly at the top of the list.  Before we head off to grab some licious (as buggie says) foods, I’d like to stop and tell you one thing that I am most thankful for today, and that is GRACE!

For a long time, grace was something I did not understand, partly be cause I really didn’t know what it was, how it applied to me or how I could use it in my life.  Taking some time to search the Scriptures, Dictionary, and my heart, I found that not only do I have Grace, but that it is something that is readily available to me and everyone else.

Grace is defined as . . .

“The free unmerited love and favor of God, the spring and source of all the benefits man receives from him.”  (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary)

I am seriously in love with this definition – the spring and source of all the benefits – when I look back at how the Lord has blessed (benefited) me in my life, I can visualize those things just flowing from him, in love.  Grace is something that you cannot earn, God provides it, just like everything else.

4 REASONS I AM THANKFUL FOR GRACE

It is something that is found!  The first place grace is mentioned is Genesis chapter 6.  In a world populated by (some estimate) roughly three million people, one man, one, FOUND grace in the sight of the Lord – Noah.  How did Noah find grace?  By walking with God.  “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord . . . Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”  (Genesis 6:8-9)  I am thankful for the grace God has given since I began walking with him!

It is something that is given!  When we first married, we lived with Thomas parents, and everything we had fit into one good size bedroom.  Today, I’m writing this in the master bedroom of my home, watching my husband sleep, and listening to my children toss and turn through a monitor.  If it were not for the grace given by God, I would have NONE of these things.  “For the LORD God is a sun and sheild:  the LORD will give grace and glory:  no good thing will he withold from them that walk uprightly.”  (Psalm 84:11)  I am thankful for the good things God has given me through his grace!

It is something that was brought by Jesus Christ!  Salvation is the absolute definition of grace.  Something given to us (a benefit) that we can do nothing to receive ourselves (unmerited).  I used to ask my Sunday School students if they had a dog?  When they would answer, I’d reply . . . Okay, well, listen, I sinned this morning before I got to church.  I need you to go home and get your dog and sacrifice it for my sins – so that I can be forgiven.  You can imagine their faces and their reactions – But through the Grace of God – his love that we are completely undeserving of, he not only gave, but DID allow his SON to be sacrificed (not a pet – his SON) so that I could have forgiveness.  “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”  (John 1:17)  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and THAT NOT OF YOURSELVES:  it is the gift (benefit) of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.”  (Ephesians 2:8-9)  I am thankful for my salvation and the price that was paid for it!

It is something you can get more of!  For years we grocery shopped at Food Depot in Dallas (about a 20 min drive).  We were strict once a week shoppers – if we didn’t get it then, it waited until the next week.  I always made sure to get extra toilet paper – lol.  So you can imagine my complete happiness when they build one 5 (literally) minutes from my house, the year the girls were born.  That year only once a week shopping got threw out the window (ahahah).  Unlike our drinks and lunch meat, with God, you don’t have to wait until the next week to load up on grace – you can get more any time you need it.  “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and FIND grace to help in time of need.”  (Hebrews 4:16)  Not only can you get it when you need it, but you can multiply the grace you are given.  Nobody does math like God!  He’s not so much an add-to-er, as a multiplier – he gives in abundance, and according to measure (Ephesians 4:7)  Want to stock up on grace?  Get in the book, learn about God and you can multiply your grace.  “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”  (2 Peter 1:1-4)  I am thankful that when I have a need for more grace, God has provided a way for me to get it!

There are so many more aspects of Grace that I am thankful for, but today, on this Thanksgiving Day, I wanted to share my top 4 reasons that I am thankful for God’s grace – without it, we would have nothing, including our eternally secure Salvation.

What is something that you are thankful for this Thanksgiving?
